Did you know that children experience stress just as much as adults? Children as young as three years, can experience anxiety, fear, sadness, loss, etc., in connection with everyday occurrences around them. Today especially, our children are pressured to compete and succeed intellectually and socially right from preschool. For this reason most children live in a state of constant stress. We, as adults are able to recognize our stress and seek outlets for stress relief, such as introspection, meditation, yoga, and prayer. But are we able to recognize stress in our children? Better yet, are we able to help our children learn to cope?

Visit to India!
March 10th, 2010 by Ifeoma IkenzePosted in Favorite Posts, Spirituality

In February 2010, I made a very short visit on a speaking tour to the city of Hyderabad in India (only 5 days!). It was a most wonderful and educational visit. I was overwhelmed by the warmth and beauty of the people, especially the women, and also the richness of their history, culture, and awe-inspiring architecture. Many happy hours were spent in homeopathic consultations with women and children.
I had the rewarding experience of speaking to a people of different ages and religious backgrounds, i.e. Hindu, Christian, Buddhist etc, about the deeper questions that touch us all as human beings. After that, I had a session for women, which was attended by 56 women and following that, a session for young university students.
Why the Pain? Why the Suffering?

Everyone has at one time or other experienced suffering or the suffering of a loved one through illness or an accident. Each of us has probably asked the question “Why?” Why is this happening? And when it comes to our children, the “Why” is even greater.
We may do everything we can to safeguard our health; eat right, exercise, immunize our children, drive safe cars, enforce safety rules. And yet – one falls sick, a child has a hereditary disease, another is plagued with a lifelong depression or anxiety disorder. I appears that in spite of all out efforts there is more disease and distress today than ever before. Cancer strikes both young and old in alarming incidence. There is more pain medication and psychiatric medication prescribed than ever before, even in young children! Why??

Are prayer and meditation one and the same? Those of us who meditate find that practicing meditation brings an inner composure and peacefulness that helps us ride life’s ups and downs more smoothly and evenly. For many, daily meditation serves as a vehicle toward a higher self-awareness and a conscious connection with the pulsating life force that permeates the universe.
